Cancellations

If you need to cancel or move your appointment, please give me at least 48 hours' notice. I travel to you and groom one dog at a time, so a late cancellation usually means that slot cannot be filled.

Cancellations with less than 48 hours' notice may be charged at 50% of the groom price. I will send you reminders before your appointment.

If you are not home when I arrive, I will call you and wait for up to 20 minutes. After that I may need to rebook, and the late cancellation charge will apply.

Health and Welfare

Every groom includes a 6-point health check: eyes, ears, mouth and teeth, coat and skin, sanitary areas, and movement. I am not a vet, but I will tell you about anything unusual so you can follow it up.

I follow the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and its five welfare needs in every groom:

A suitable environment: I set up in a safe, enclosed space in your home and never leave your dog unattended on the table.
A suitable diet: I will not feed your dog or give treats without your permission. Fresh water is always available.
Normal behaviour: your dog can take breaks, stretch and use the garden. I use only the gentlest restraints needed to keep them safe.
Being housed with or apart from other animals: if you have more than one dog, let me know whether they are happier together or apart while I groom.
Protection from pain, suffering, injury and disease: I clean and disinfect all my equipment between every appointment. If I find fleas, I will tell you and fully treat my equipment before my next visit. I am pet first aid trained and I will tell you straight away if I think your dog is unwell.

A note on matting

I will not dematt any dog for more than 20 minutes. Any longer is uncomfortable and stressful for them, so if your dog's coat is severely matted I will contact you to discuss the options. How short I need to go depends on how close the mats sit to the skin, and I will talk this through with you before I begin.

Nervous and reactive dogs

Grooming at home is often much calmer for nervous dogs. Please tell me about any anxiety, reactivity or history of biting in your grooming enquiry, so we can decide together whether in-home grooming is right for your dog.

Nervous dogs may need extra time or more breaks, and an additional charge may apply. If continuing a groom would put your dog or me at risk of harm, I will stop and talk to you about the best next step.
